I agree, Barnie Miller and All in the Family avoided lines solely for laughs. They rode out a storyline perfectly, all the time.

Yes I remember a couple episodes. In one the humans were trying to teach the apes that when harvesting corn to set aside the larger ears for seed for the next planting so the crops would get bigger and bigger whereas the apes took the larger ears and ate those insuring smaller and smaller crops over time. Another episode involved building a fence and of course the apes were just clueless oafs yet they ruled the world.

Yea it was pretty bad. This may have been the show McLean Stevenson left MASH for.
Can you say "idiot"? Stevenson left MASH for this and it did not last a full season.

That's how I felt about Sanford and Son. Like Chico, it had a catchy theme song, but the show itself was awful. Sometimes I wonder if those shows made the top ten list just because people tuned in only long enough to hear the opening song.

The Spinoff Grady had a much better opening theme in my opinion than Sanford and Son

So many to choose from. Here are a few of the worst offenders:

Carter Country
What's Happening?
The Jeffersons
One Day At A Time
Carter Country
Happy Days
Laverne & Shirley (especially Carmine Ragusa walking in singing Rags to Riches)

Carter Country - So bad, it had to be listed twice.

according to this thread, EVERY 70s sitcom stunk! They might be cheesy, but everyone fondly remembers Happy Days, What's Happening?, The Partridge Family, and Sanford and Son! Well, I do from my childhood.
