well enjoy, it's us employers who cant collect and wont be around when your 99 week UE types run out of free living. me i' m working cause i have to so i can eat and my work history will look better than yours.good luck grasshopper
The first time I got laid off, I was very ill around the same time and in and out of the hospital...so I was just so sick it took me a little bit to fully realize that I was unemployed and how much my life would change.
The second time, I lost a job I LOVED...everything from the tasks to the salary were my dream...and I just cried for a day and a half. I think it was even more devastating b/c it was my second lay off in a year and a half, so I already knew how hard it was and was just scared to go through it again.
I took about a week to do some things for myself and then starting hard core job hunting. My hard work has finally paid off as I am starting a new job on Monday.
There are many ups and downs...some days I just got depressed or cried if something bad would happen such as getting rejected for a job or not finding anything while searching. Some days I would have intense anxiety for the future. Other days would seem normal...I would do errands, see friends and maybe forget for a minute that I was laid off.
I think now even with a new job in hand, the anxiety continues, b/c I fear being laid off and I didn't even start yet.
Going through this has taught me not to take anything for granted.
I can say the first time you were lay off work will be the hardest part. I didn't mean the next one would be easy but atleast your aware of what you'll do and get used to it. Important thing is get a job immediately and atleast don't be choosy cause you can resign if a good job comes around that is if you don't have any contract.

Yes, yes ... PLEASE don't be choosy. This is NOT the time to be choosy. That's why I can't understand why 4 people just up and walked away from their job. When my friend told me that (those folks quitting their job), I was like, "Whhhhaaattt?"
The longer people are on UE the worse there chances are going to be. When I was at the end of my 6 months, thank god, employers actually started refusing to unemploy me because of the gap in my employment. Lose of experience was their reasoning.
So anyone on unemployment, that is skilled in programming or have certifications in the field. Come to the west coast. We have jobs for you here. Though you have to be open to java or C++. One programmer I met couldn't find work in silicon valley because he refused to program in java.Must really hate it.
Yes, the government keeping people on unemployment is a problem. It's not helping them at all. I have a relative who has made the best of being unemployed - spends winters in Florida, hangs out and enjoys his freedom but now he's getting to the end of his 99 weeks of free paychecks and realizing that it's not good on his resume and applications that he wasn't working.
And what's bad is that he really doesn't want to work so he's hoping that the government comes up with some kind of extension that would allow him another couple of years to do what he likes to do.
I was laid off from my dream job about 6 years ago, found another one within a month, then, like an idiot I took a better paying job a year after that. Why was I an idiot? Because I was laid off from that job a year and a half ago (worked a 6 month temp job after that but that was last year) and now I cannot find a job even though I have been appying every day to anything I see.
If I would have stuck with the one after my first lay-off, I would still be there. But - who knew how bad this recession would be???

Well you couldn't predict the future so I see nothing wrong with the decision. I do see something wrong with you applying to anything you see
So how is it like? I know this sounds stupid. But i have to ask. I worry about what will i do if i loose my job. I will loose my place and have no where to stay eventually, no money eventually, I mean how would I survive?
Unemployment is horrible. Since I got laid off in AZ, I can only make $265 a week on unemployment. It is tough to support even a single person on that kind of salary. I can't imagine how families are surviving. I would much, much rather be working.
