What a few on this board don't understand when they say that they refuse to take work that is below their previous high standard is that they are slowly becoming very difficult to employ. Even if you are just waiting table, washing dishes, data entry, it's not exactly rocket science, and it's nothing to brag about, but it shows HR professionals that even though to were laid off, that you can, and want to take on the responsibility of working still.

If I were interviewing someone and saw that they had nothing on their resume for over 50 weeks, my question would be, "What have you been doing to keep yourself ready for your next career?" If the answer was anything that didn't include volunteering, getting an education, or working menial jobs I would rush the rest of the interview. If they were working in a terrible job, despite the fact that they were indeed qualified for much better work, I would automatically assume that they were extremely responsible and smart.
While that is nice and noble, it often screws people, if they end or lose that job, since the state makes them start a new claim, which often is 2/3's or less, of what the old claim was.

I'd just like to get a feel for how much time people here are spending on their job search. Also, how many applications per month do you apply to? Are you looking nationwide or locally? Having not really been unemployed, but graduating from college with no job for 3 months, I'm curious.

I have the same problem. I have graduated in May and trying to find a job since my graduation. No luck so far, even though I do have 2 year office job experience and really not choosy at all. I am ready to work any office job and I am not planning to leave it any time soon because of my desire to go to a grad school.
