It's a letter that comes that tells you if you are or are not eligible for UI, any earning requirements to purge a disqualification, any false statement penalty weeks, and the exact reason why or why not you are eligible.

Usually the determination letter is sent after CA conducts its investigation. Sometimes - if there is a clean layoff and EDD has been notified by employer of this layoff - there may be no determination letter and your benefits start pretty quickly.

For now, you received a notice of what you might be eligible for if your claim is approved. Approval is determined by the circumstances of your discharge, depending upon:
  1. Was it a layoff?
  2. Do you and your employer agree it was a layoff?
  3. Was it a firing/discharge/termination?
  4. Why?
  5. Has employer - or did you? - cite a reason for discharge which CA deems needs further investigation for misconduct/good cause quit?
Until we know more about the circumstances surrounding your job loss, it's hard to conjecture.

Normally, CA will notify you on a date for a telephone interview if it has any questions. Payments are not made until after that interview.

Since you've received a claim form paying "0" for your second week, expect to hear on an interview, next.
