She says the countryside is beautiful, and the weather has been nice, though colder than she expected.

She also said that people dress more formally - that she never sees anyone wearing sweat pants or sweat shirts, and that they all without exception seem to put more effort into how they dress - rarely wearing tennis shoes, for example, and wearing coats more often than simple jackets.

She's quite impressed!

She also said that people do tend to stare at her family. She is biracial (black and white) and her husband is Puerto Rican. Not to brag, but both of them are exceptionally good looking people. They have three little girls, with riots of black curls and lovely skin. I say all that to point out that they do tend to attract some attention wherever they go -but she said that the attention is more blatant there. Not rude - and she's not offended - but she does feel more "obvious" and more self conscious.

I asked her about people of color and minorities, and she said that there are people of African, Indian, and Middle Eastern descent there, but overall there are fewer minorities than where she moved from (Virginia coast) - quite a bit fewer in fact. She's fine with it, and I think she'll get used to it - I also think that she may be overly conscious of people looking at her, and there may be a wide variety of reasons as to why they are looking - who knows?

I think as she settles in, she'll feel less self conscious. No one has been rude to her, by the way. She loves England so far!
I'm so glad they're doing well and I hope that situation continues.

Now for the Important Question: When is your trip out there ?

Places like Bradford, Leeds are full of minorities. Interesting to know what someone from Texas thinks about food in Yorkshire.

I would be surprised and disappointed if anyone was rude to her Kathryn. I'm so pleased that she is enjoying it there. The town and surrounding villages and countryside are lovely. You may recall that I was there last month.

Has she tried mushy peas yet?

I am very jealous of your recent trip there and I can hardly wait to get there myself! My daughter is basically ecstatic with everything.

I will ask her about the mushy peas, but you're going to have to tell me more about those!

And the best mushy peas are at Magpie's Cafe in Whitby, North Yorkshire.
