The UK did TRY to cherry pick early on in the negotiations, 'we want an end to free movement but still want unlimited access to the single market just like an EU member and also the ability to negotiate our own trade deals' but was very quickly told there was no way that was happening.
Nobody is saying it should be renegotiated, all that Britain is asking is that the measure be temporary and subject to future negotiations which is perfetly reasonable.

The UK wants a trade deal, the EU has trade deals with over 60 nations outside of Europe so are you suggesting that North Africa should have free trade but not the UK, a country that has troops and aircraft currently defending Eastern Europe and the Baltic States, and which is committed to European defence.

Perhaps North African countries might want to start protecting European shipping lanes and protecting Europe from Russuan aggresion, as the EU can't expect to cherry pick and ask Britain to keep raking on such roles if we can't even trade properly.

I'm sorry Brits but the powers that be are not going to let you leave the EU without a real fight. When they allowed the vote you weren't supposed to vote to leave.

The next vote should include dropping the pound for the Euro, if & when the UK vote to stay they need to be a full member and be fully involved not a pain in the arse with one foot in one foot out

Swinging exchange rates is like playing roulette with peoples jobs.

Now you think we're going to crawl on our hands and knees, say please let us stay, and yes, we'll accept the euro?

You are living in cloud cuckoo land........ But, you are good for a laugh........

Oh gawd......... I can't stop laughing. Thanks for that.

We will never accept the Euro as our currency. There is no chance of it in my lifetime, or even yours. You are day dreaming.

Just enjoy your life in Spain. You have shown your selfish credentials before in this thread.

We have to regain control of our borders. Nothing is more important for the future well being of this land. I'll say it again. Nothing is more important. Not trade deals. Not jobs. Not selfish people like you, thinking only of himself. Nothing.

It is already temporary, as long as a mutually agreed solution to keeping the Irish border open is agreed the backstop won't ever come into play anyway. What the Tory right wants though is quite different, they want the UK to just be able to ditch the backstop after say 5 years even if no alternative has been agreed. Ireland and the EU won't agree to that as it would mean the UK could just shut down the border and impose any controls it wanted to once that period was over.

The EU is quite happy to do a trade deal, it's just that the type of market access that Theresa May wants comes with the conditions of the back stop which her party won't agree to. North African countries don't have anything like the access to EU markets that say Switzerland or Norway have, but for that Switzerland and Norway accept free movement of people which the UK government has ruled out. There are plenty of options for deals on the table that the EU would be happy to go with, the problem is that Theresa May's self - imposed red lines prevent many of the best options and her party can't agree on any of the others.

I'm not thinking of myself, and am not at all selfish, the opportunities the EU gave me should be there for everyone, your closed door mentality would discourage many younger people reaching their potential.
