Racial and cultural divide go hand in hand. Catherine comes from a middle-class WHITE English background. A black person with a middle-class English background or even upper-class would not have anywhere near the cultural background to bridge the gap. Racial likeness counts for something and matters an awful lot.

The Monarchy carefully selected Diana Spencer for Charles, and educated her in the ways of a Queen.

The Monarchy did not want Camilla for Charles, but Kings (future and present) often have girlfriends. Even though Charles did what the Monarchy wanted (married Diana, produced 2 heirs), he did not want Diana. He always wanted Camilla. Diana complained about 3 people in the marriage.

Harry and Meghan's role is different. It is not about producing heirs, Harry has been replaced with William's children. Harry is irrelevant to the future of the UK Royal Family, he can marry whomever he pleases. He can continue to serve the Queen, or he can retire to Vancouver Island. He can do as he pleases as long as he does not embarrass the Royal Family.

There's nothing "same old" about this, and certainly not in relation to Prince Charles.

I disagree. Culture is about habits and traditions. People in England had little connection to people of other races until a couple of hundred years ago. Traditions are handed down over generations, and include religious beliefs, manners, meal habits and so much more. It's about tradition, not skin colour.

Good post. That is all true, that's exactly the way it happened and it has been world-wide public knowledge for at least 25 years or more. I thought everyone knew that and I'm really surprised it wasn't known by the person you responded to.

It can be about race as well as culture. And yes, race and culture are closely linked. Habits and traditions are passed among people of like ancestry, religious/moral beliefs, skin color, even supposedly unimportant physical attributes such as hair texture, nose length, and skull shape/size. Perhaps it's just too complicated for some to grasp if never experiencing it.

Bingo!

I remember seeing pictures of Charles and Camilla out in London before the royal family disappeared her. Then they set about trying to find the appropriate brood mare for him. They were quite interested in Princess Caroline of Monaco for a while, until she went off the deep end. Then the Queen Mother remembered about Diana Spencer. . . Poor Charles. . .he usually looked like he was standing on a rusty nail when he was with her. He did his duty.

Prince Edward and Sophie’s marriage is strong. It is only the three older children who had issues.

Race in UK culture does not have a long history. Tradition in the UK is longer than the first time people from another race arrived in the UK, so never can people of another race know UK tradition like people from the UK.

Harry doesn't want tradition, we know that. He wants to do his own thing in his own way, and that's fine with everyone - as long as he and his wife to not over spend, or fly around on private jets and proclaim to be climate-change tree huggers, embarrass his family again, or build 3 fences around any other houses.

Anthropology is in question, but skull is relevant to determining race, thus Indigenous and Asian both being Mongoloid.

I'm not convinced that there's a legitimate "race" angle here.

What if we were to think about it in terms of Harry and Meghan provoking William and Kate. By proclaiming that they are tree huggers (Harry and Meghan), and flying around on a lot of different private jets for vacation, maybe they set the bar for William and Kate - who flew commercial with all three children to Ireland a couple of weeks later.

Maybe Harry and Meghan should stay out of politics so the next Royal Family doesn't have to compromise their safety while demonstrating that they are of and for the people.

Harry knows better, but he supports his wife over common sense and respect for family.
