I'm a single guy from Dallas possibly relocating to a company in Orem. I heard Orem is pretty much a family mormon town. Any suggestions on areas/cities near Orem I could move to? Probably looking to drink and have fun. Trying to keep the commute under an hour for sure.

Anyone got any ideas where to live?

Non-mormon Dallas guy~

Hello, I am from Orem (lived there 21 years) and I am also not a Mormon. I enjoyed the bar scene throughout most of my twenties. I moved to the Salt Lake Valley when I was 21. It was a very wise move for me. I fit in much better here.

I would recommend you live at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley. That way you're not more than about 45 minutes from Orem, yet you can enjoy the Salt Lake night life. Perhaps Draper, Riverton, West Jordan, South Jordan, or Sandy might be towns for you to consider. I think the closer you are to downtown Salt Lake, the more bars/private clubs you will find.

One thing to keep in mind is that our liquor stores are state owned and run. If you want alcohol with an alcohol percentage >3.2%, you'll need to buy it in a liquor store, a restaurant or at a private club. Go to this website for more info.

Will you be renting a place or buying?

Thanks for the response. I'm going to rent an apartment. Probably, (If I get the job) will be living there for 1-2 years at the most. So, I want to find the best place that has a combination of fun, activities, and scenary without the hassle of mostly Mormon (No offense to Mormons, just what I hear). Trying to keep the rent under $1000 for sure.

I've attached a map showing the location of those towns I mentioned. Good luck with both your job and apartment search.

Default "at the most"

That's what I said. I moved to Utah (non-mormon) two years ago from Nashville and was for sure going to move when my fiance retired from the Air Force. Well, he retired and now we're staying here. This place grows on you.

After living here for two years I could never move back down South again. It takes awhile to get used to, but now we LOVE it. Love the views, mountains, weather, cleaniness, low crime -- up in Layton -- the four seasons, beautiful sunsets, outdoor scene, and nice neighbors, beautiful snowfalls. Not to mention that our teenage kids love it, too. My daughter is planning on going to college here now at Westminster.

It's not so bad here.

I'm kind of toying with the idea of moving to a different area in Salt Lake. You can take my apartment in Sugarhouse. Cute and affordable!

Just don't move to Utah County, I used to live there, not a fan, stick with the Salt lake valley.

Stay out of Utah County for sure! I'm not a big fan of that county either and I'm LDS. Nice to visit, not to live :-) Sugarhouse would be worth looking into but it's more north. Anything on the south side of the SL valley is ideal as a location for work and play.

My kids live in Utah, big mistake marrying a mormon boy. I got out as soon as possible, back home to TX, but I'm getting sucked back in because I miss them so much. It makes me physically sick to think of going back to the place.

Sugerhouse is the place to be if single in this area. Close to the city and it gives you more of the " town " activity. Stay away from Utah County we made a big mistake 18 months ago. Non-member and very independent husband and wife, no children. We just do not fit. We are in the process of looking for another home and make the move ASAP.
