I think you'd be best off living in Kanab if that's where your daily work is, and you would be in a community where there are other B.F. people. Take the drive for the couple of college classes. Including culture shock, I think you'd feel insanely isolated living between St.George and Kanab.
I correspond with one B.F. worker who lives in Kanab proper. She doesn't love the two-dog limit (it's a city rule, rent or own) but is from NYC and likes some semblence of town living, and it's only gonna be in Kanab.
There are actually some very nice condos in Kanab "El Pueblo" that I looked at when I was there. Don't know about dogs, but if they are needing to rent, my guess is you could do it with a deposit.
Someone mentioned Colorado City, a bit of distance away. I believe that's the town where everyone including the police chief is in one of those polygamist cult.
I'd vote for Kanab and find a rental where I can have my two dogs.
Good luck. It's an exciting move and a gorgeous place.

Default Thinking about Kanab myself!

So you're not the only one that's been bit by the bug! For weeks now I've been thinking about packing up my life and moving to Kanab to loose myself in the life of the animal sanctuary!
If only I could afford to drop everything and move! I'm trying to be sensible and talk myself into waiting until I can actually get a job there... but I'm not sure how to do that with out actually going there!

I'm not sure what type of degree you're looking for, but there is also DeVry University in Salt Lake City, which offers online classes in business administration and computer tech. I was looking into it for myself.

You're right though, about the housing, it looks sparse. I was investigating and there aren't really any apartments there! It looks like the way to go long term living is to invest, bite the bullet, and buy! The cost of living is kind of high though, well in comparison to where I am now! Maybe coming from your end of NY it's not so bad. But I did find a few decent houses for under 200,000. It might not be soooo bad if you had a few roommates to split the mortgage and utilities.

Anyway, best wishes, and good luck, keep posting on how it all works out!
I'd personally like to know just in case I get the chance to get out there myself!
