About a month ago I had shared we would be relocating to the area. Now I have questions about the schools and particular areas. What can you tell me about Covington Middle School ( I am not impressed with the test scores that I have reviewed). However I don't want that to skew my views. Also what about Hertiage High? Now unto about the areas close to the Orchards? The Areas West of 112th AVenue? Both of us more then likely will be working in Portland, and this looked to be about the closet communte without living in Portland. Thank you for your time.

Covington Middle is not a very good school at all. For a middle school it's actually quite scary. Heritage High isn't the best high school around, but definitely not the worst. Fort Vancouver and Evergreen are probably the worst. There are some places in Orchards that are nice, but it is one of the "dumpy" parts of Vancouver. I would stay away from Burton Road and E 18th. 112th ITSELF isn't bad, but once you branch off it starts to get a little grungy. Vancouver has a lot to offer and it has really nice parts and really not so nice parts. Just takes a little looking around or if you aren't able to do that, find a real estate agent who will be honest and find you a home in a good location.

Portland Christian, since you are both working and making the drive anyway.

If one of you were at home and able to participate in the public school, (or can be home early enough to engage w/ kids immediately after school (debriefing) I would get into Hockinson district.

I would not have a VSD Mid or High school to recommend, odds are stacked against you. (Not that there aren't some terrific teachers there), just that the kids get little support / education values brought from home. Many parents are in far worse shape than their kids... very tough for teachers to deal with. If VSD is your only choice, consider Salmon Creek area.
