I live in the Evergreen School District and Harmony school is in our boundary.
I heard elementary schools only go at the pace of slowest kid and kids are rarely challenged. I called ESD several times to get some answers and they never return my phone calls. I would love to send my kid where I know they
will challenged. I have a child in K and already doing 3rd grade math, and 2nd grade reading, and knows computers pretty well.
Currently attends St. Joseph, but too expensive and too far of a drive to continue.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I don't think ESD will let me change schools.

We and many others did boundary exceptions several times, the ESD will be of no help. There are a zillion folks doing it in CC, and I think there is some legislation which makes it hard for them to stop you. Many folks do exemptions to get into BG for Homelink, in fact BG district has a school within the Camas district (River Campus) to accommodate their mass boundary exemptions in East Vancouver, Camas, and Washougal. We had to do a boundary exception just to get into Running Start, as our local districts were total jerks about it. Granted it gets easier after you learn the ropes. (and when local school 'gestapo' realizes you are not gonna take NO for an answer). Pathetic it is... (USA school system - OUTSOURCE it and get these kids educated )

Get to know the "boundary exception" rules, get in really good with your desired school, and then you make rules fit your need. I've known very few to get turned down, but FL is a 'demand' school w/ enrollment cap ('cause everyone wants in).
  • You could rent a place in FL boundaries and use that addy (probably cheaper than private school, especially if you sublease to a 'boarder' that will collect and forward your mail ).
  • You can pick up a PT work contract job at the HP site, that will give you significant clout to apply to that school (HP workers volunteer 'in class' and meet their kids at lunch). If the job goes away in a few weeks...
  • You can buy a bargain house in the 'desirable' FL neighborhood.
  • Maybe 'Grandma' (your real ma, or an 'adopted' one) would like to have a nice place at Vista Del Rio (and she just happens to be your 'after school caregiver')

Will just need to get creative. I know several homeowners nearby, maybe there is an 'after-school' care place that would help you qualify.
