I grew up in southwestern VT during the '60s and '70s and remember many feet of snow most every year. Reading through this thread I wasn't as surprised as I was sad. Even the weather has changed a lot from the VT I knew decades ago.
One of my brothers repeatedly told me, "Keep the memories you have, don't go back. You will feel only sadness."
I moved back to New England, to the flatlands , a bit over a year ago but have not been to VT. Yet. I do feel very torn and after playing in the snow 2 weekends ago, I began to dream of that brother who passed in '05.
I could not deny the pull of New England. I doubt that I will able to deny VT either. Roots run deep in Vermont's rocky soils and are impossible to completely remove.

The weather report was covering the averages this morning. They reported the totals are now below normal for the month as well as for the season. Not by much, but because the weather has such drastic extremes, the amount of snow on the ground at any one time is far below normal. The one benefit from the lack of snow was discussed as well. The benefit would be less insect problems this summer. The bugs that hibernate in the ground and on the trees are being killed off at a higher rate.

You guys may get your wish this weekend. Tracking a storm thats going to spawn a coastal low. I of course will be the border of rain/snow line but latest models are getting interesting

Ton of liquid associated with this storm.

BTV looks like just under an inch liquid at all snow which would mean roughly 10-12".. As we all know, track is key..

I wonder what NWS BTV is saying

Here it is... Latest Euro12z snow totals. Wow. 18-24" in parts of MA and NH. Widespread 12"+ from Northern CT, VT, NH, MA to ME

Not set in stone but we'll have to see if this trend continues. Would be a Sunday event

Default precip dots

If you guys are curious what the NAM or GFS shows as far as precip type and how much.. this is pretty easy to use.

NCEP Model Time-Series (BUFR) Forecast Hourly Weather Data

On left hand side scroll all the way down to pick stations available. find closest one to you.
Pick the model you want right under that

A graph will come up like this.. This is the latest GFS. Looks like 3 snow events for BTV. First one (tonight) about .10" liquid worth of snow. next one is the bigger one on the 24th/25th. notice the dots go from .10 to .45".

Total snow qpf for entire period is .838". (Over 3/4")

If you use the typical 10:1 snow ratios. Multiple the qpf x ratio. .838 x 10 = 8.38" of snow in the entire period. If ratios are 15:1 then its 12" of snow.

That is a great link--bookmarked it.

Mad River Glen back in action. It's so hard to keep track of how many times we've gotten back to "decent" conditions then thawed and froze hard again this season!

They called this 6-8" and it definitely made a big difference.

Going to send my wife out tomorrow.
