Pay for divorced/unwed mothers to go to college? I know that they used to back in the 1990s. My wife and I lived in Vermont and witnessed several divorced mothers go to college on the Vermont dole. One, once she achieved her associate's degree framed it on her wall and then continued on state assistance. My wife tried to get education assistance/grants from the state and was told that what she should do instead is get a separate address from mine, like we were legally separated, and then apply for assistance (we had a 7-year old son then). Also, does Vermont hold this benefit out to single fathers or is it just mothers?

I'm not sure if Vermont does it but NH does. I've seen more than one girl get knocked up, pretend to attend school and be on the lookout for more guys to knock them up again.

It's pretty sad really.
