Why exactly does it cost sooooo much to live in VT? Is EVERYTHING more expensive or just housing? Is it better to rent than to pay those taxes?

Fact is that New England is one of the worst areas in the country for cost of living to salary ratio.

I've actually found VT cheaper to live in then NH despite NH's "We have no sales tax" chant, they find umpteen other ways to get your money... property taxes, view taxes, exorbitant car registration fees.....

Well if I am given the opportunity, I think we are ready for South Burlington. You only live once.

One thing is that it is ruraly landlocked and has no industry.
When a trucking company sends one of those big huge trailers into
an area it wants it to be full both ways. Coming out of VT they are
usually empty, so the company spends the same amount of money on
only one load. Just one minor example, but the microcosm of the macrocosm.

That's the pot calling the kettle black.............try looking at your fellow liberal cronies in DC...........the war bill is bulging with unneccessary pork for such c*ap as peanut and spinach growers but also the dems will be responsible for the biggest tax hike in history when they refuse to make Bush's tax cuts permanent...............ok enough politics...........back to the VT mud slinging!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get rid of the liberal politicians, get rid of the eco-nuts, get rid of the development restrictions and get rid of the judges that love child molesters and then we might have a decent state that actualy creates decent jobs............but its irrelevant for me as I will be just happy to get as far away from this god awful state as is possible

Vermont, like many states has its pros and cons, ups and downs, varied political stances; although I am a transplant from 'down country' I still think VT has more to offer than less....come on over to Vermont!

I don't really see many apartment complexes in my searches, not that I am partial to them or anything. But if they exist does the complex shovel the snow?
