Good morning all. My wife and I are wanting to visit DC in August 2008. After researching lodging in DC we have come to realize that a decent room in the city is VERY expensive and would put a large dent in our vacation budget. We were wondering if we were willing to drive 40 miles or so into the city if we could find a hotel room at a more reasonable rate. Any input you have on this matter would be appreciated.

Default Visit DC

DC can be an expensive city to visit! I go there often and I think prices have really gone up on rooms, restaurants. I always stay at the Days Inn Crystal City. It has parking and the METRO subway is right across the street which takes you to all of the sights. Its not hard to get to and if you want to know a short cut to get there let me know. Its on the Virginia side which is not as expensive as staying right in the City. Its not too early to book your room for August as this place is popular.

Default Another suggestion

Try the Hampton Inn/King Street in Old Alexandria. Its in a great location, across from the King Street METRO. Old Town is a quaint place with gaslights and lots of history. For dinner try Theismanns' restaurant(of Redskin fame), the best steaks I have ever eaten! Also lots of neat rather inexpensive restaurants and not so inexpensive with views of the Potomac at night with the monuments lit up. If you have a chance try a dinner boat ride on the Potomac!

ROANOKER4- Thanks for the tip about Crystal City Days Inn. That looks more like our price range. I am grateful!

Default Days Inn

If you are driving up from the South on US1(Jeff Davis Hwy) you will see the Days Inn on your left. The parking garage is on the right side of the Hotel. Have a nice stay in DC!
