We are planning to flee Northern Virginia as soon as we can sell our home. But we have yet to figure out exactly where we are going to spend our retirement years

For some time, we were leaning toward Lake Monticello. However, given our age, I have been having second thoughts about its distance to medical resources. I understand that a few docs have offices there, but as best I can determine it is 20 miles to a hospital, and that concerns me.

Recently while looking for a place in Central VA that has close access to good medical facilities I happened across the town of Fisherville, with a decent size hospital and medical offices.

So my question: does anyone know anything about Fishersville? Is it nice? Safe? A good place for a couple of refugees from Northern Virginia who are sick to death of Washington?

Oh, and the most important question of all. Is there a good vet for our incredibly spoiled puppies?

I've never thought of Fishersville as much of a town, more like a collection of(usually nice) neighborhoods between Staunton and Waynesboro. It's definitely safe. The area is beautiful and is quickly becoming a retirement destination for the same reasons you're considering it. I don't know what the actual town of Fishersville has but Staunton and Waynesboro are both 5-10 minutes away if it's not in Fishersville. The hospital is very nice. I'm having a baby there in April. I've also spent time at UVA med and Martha Jefferson in C-ville( all for the same reason) and I prefer Augusta health head and shoulders over the others.
