Your best bet might be a private school, such as the Sandy Spring Friends School. Any private school will have a more balanced curriculum than a public school in the area just about. Churchill or Whitman are most likely going to be focused on teaching to test and keeping their test scores high. MoCo public school officials are very intense about keeping their test scores close to the best in the nation.

There are some great private schools closer to North Potomac than Sandy Spring Friends School. This website might be helpful to you in your search.

Potomac, Maryland (MD) Private Schools

You can also check out greatschools.org or schooldigger.com for some parent reviews of any school in the area. Good luck in your search!

I have only read that Sandy Springs Friends is closer to Quaker values than the better-known Sidwell Friends. Quakers emphasize character, values, community service and non-violent ways to solve conflict. I don't know anything about their academic approach, but I would consider it for my child if I could afford the tuition: http://www.ssfs.org/admissions/tuition/

I would also suggest the Connelly School of the Holy Child (Catholic for girls), or perhaps Bullis or one of the Episcopal Schools.

Yes, you are right. MoCo often give tests to the public schools and rank the schools. I really need to consider a private school. Thank you for the two websites you provide. They are very helpful.

I searched some information about the potomac private schools, especially those you mentioned above. I am more interested in Bullis. Thank you so much for your patience and information.

You're welcome. The Bullis School is a terrific school, one of the best in all of the DC area. A family friend of mine attended and loved it. They do a good job prepping for college vs. just test scores.
