Thanks for being a second pair of eyes. lol I thought that location was kind of strange. I was chasing my very mobile 6-month year-old while reading the article.

Here's another development to track. There is a proposal for three restaurants in the Bladensburg area where the Crossroads nightclub used to be. "White-tablecoth was mentioned, but of course that could mean anything these days. Sounds promising. That stretch of RT. 1. is prime for redevelopment leading into the Arts District.

The proposed 24,000-square foot “BEYOND” restaurant, which would be built on the site of the former Crossroads Night Club Near the Peace Cross on Baltimore Avenue, will house three separate upscale restaurants, according to officials representing the developer.

Raj Barr, president of Washington, D.C.-based Raj-Kumar Architects Engineers, said the building will include a dinner theater with entertainment, a sports-themed restaurant and a fine dining restaurant.

Good news for UMD students and alumni.

Quote:
...former university student and virtual-reality pioneer Brendan Iribe is donating $31 million toward building a new, cutting-edge computer science building and creating a scholarship for the department.
The majority of Iribe’s gift, about $30 million, will go toward the construction of the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Innovation, which is expected to cost about $140 million and will be located in what is currently a parking lot at the corner of Campus Drive and Paint Branch Drive, university President Wallace Loh said.
The $38-million dollar gift is the largest in school history. The new center will be modeled after science innovation buildings in silicon valley.

6) University of Maryland Hotel - Baltimore Ave (Completion -2017)
7) Landmark College Park - 7501 Baltimore Ave (Completion - Late 2015)
8) Terrapin Row - Knox Rd and Guilford Dr (Completion - Late 2016)

In two-year span from Late 2015 to Late 2017, 9 new projects will be open for business all within 3 miles of each other. If more developers can have their projects approved and break ground by late 2015, we can add more to the list if they can meet the two-year construction average for these projects.

Default College Park, UM work to make community top college town

This is good.

Quote:
Six years from now, downtown College Park could look different — with music venues, art house cinemas, throngs of pedestrians and fewer cars — if officials accomplish their goal to make the community that includes the University of Maryland, College Park, one of the country’s top 20 college towns.

Quote:
And while officials said they are not aware of formal rankings of college towns, they’ve been looking closely at places such as Ann Arbor, Mich.; Chapel Hill, N.C., and Berkeley, Calif., and said they want to achieve a look and feel that brings people together.
Those are some pretty good examples. We'll see.

The next 3 years will see a host of changes along Rt. 1 So, I don't think 6 years is too aggressive a timeline.

Exciting to see shovels starting to hit the ground. I hope the momentum continues and over the next 6-12 months we start hearing announcements for other parcels of east campus /leonardtown, CP shopping center, city hall, urban outfitters dev, and perhaps others that are not on the radar (like next to the domain where the churches are - if purple line gets going that will be a convenient location to campus and the light rail)

Same with the remaining dilapidated parcels on rt 1 - if those could get cleared and developed over the next five years the perception of CP for visitors would drastically change.

Yeah. Development in Hyattsville and College Park has really ramped up after the recession. I'm glad it has picked up the pace. I feared the worst back in 2009. I know some in College Park have been waiting for East campus to develop since the early 2000's. I just caught wind of it around 2005. So, even for me, it's been a long time coming.

College Park and Hyattsville are in a unique situation. A lot of old college towns don't see this kind of transformation in such a short time. Those great college towns listed in a previous post took decades to create. College Park is trying to do it inside of just one decade. It's exciting to see.
