Awesome. Thanks for the update.

Thanks! More construction! It is such a prime site. It sat empty for way too long.

The city also revealed that the restaurant in the new retail development will be called College Park Grill. It will feature barbecue, seafood and pasta on an “all-around cuisine” menu, Vogel said. Adam Greenberg, the founder and president of Restaurant Zone, will run the restaurant.
Nice to know that there will be another interesting and local restaurant. Another good choice by College Park. The fear of the city being taken over by national chains is slowly fading. Especially after the recent announcement of the new wine bar and coffeehouse being taken over by another local proprietor.

Not sure why they went this route. Just build the damn thing and don't open it for 6 months. Make it a training hotel for the employees at the other hotel. I guess it doesn't matter. It won't be finished before the next football or basketball season starts in 2016 anyway. But honestly, we need better hotels more than we need another CVS less than a mile from another CVS. And that part of town certainly needs a small grocery store rather than a CVS.

At least it may be open by the next graduation in May of 2017. That would be ideal. I hope that's what they are shooting for.

Because there are so many personnel involved with The Hotel, Vogel said, they don’t want the two hotels opening at the same time. The CVS and parking garage are the first phases of the project in the former Koons lot, and in about six months, construction on the hotel and restaurant will begin.

Andddddd BOOM! goes the dynamite!

Word has it that College Park is getting a Fat Pete's BBQ joint. It will be taking the old Capitol One Bank spot next to Nando's Peri Peri. Having just eaten at Red Hot and Blue this past week and telling my wife about the last BBQ joint in College Park that folded last year.

I actually emailed the owner and told him he wouldn't last too long with bad the BBQ that he was offering. Lots of low scores on yelp. The ribs were dry and the brisket too. People from BBQ regions in the country gave him bad scores. 6 months later he closed. Yes. I actually love BBQ that much. I wanted him to be able to hang around. But I guess he didn't feel it was worth sticking around.

Have the BBQ gods smiled upon College Park? The Washington Post seems to think so! Fat Pete's ranks #1.

Free ridership for UM students and faculty between the five College Park purple line stops. That is great news - should increase the value of land around those stops and as a result increase the demand for development. You could go from the green line to Stamp Union or a tailgate in lot 1 to East campus, etc. let's see if the development community starts focusing on land around University College.

It makes good sense. As you said, it encourages people to live nearby. Free transportation to work? That's a nice incentive. In addition to the bike share program that will be initiated in the near future.

Chains are usually the only ones who can afford the high rents and make a go of it. Sorry to say

Not necessarily. It takes a good business sense and a bit of hard work. But there are local establishments that have stood the test of time. Just because you open a store doesn't mean you will automatically do well. The Board & Brew is the only one in the world and they have lasted longer than some of the establishments there. Even Royal Farms.

A recent press release on the new hotel being built at the new Ford site. Opening date is set for Summer of 2017. So, not so far after the CVS opens in the beginning of 2017. It will be Choice Hotels' top tier hotel which I think is perfect for College Park. it is not expensive like the Marriott and the new hotel coming up down the street, and it's not a dive or a low tier like Super 8. There will be a wide range of hotels for visitors to the university.
