Redline,

You got me good with that one.

I actually lived in California and grew up surfing LA and San Diego beaches. Now it is waaaayyy too crouded, poluted, $$$ and raped.

I don't think that kind of thing could ever happen to the rugged PNW'ern coast. There are just not enough large cities with jobs right next to the beach. That is actually a good thing even though it is sometimes a bit of a pain to get to them from Seattle or Portland.

I agree! I grew up in Hawaii and lived in LA for some time before moving to the Washington Coast. Even though I am a big proponent of tourism, I know in my heart that Washington beaches will never be developed or used the way they have been in So Cal and Honolulu. The Indian Reservation lands and the National forests kind of keep it protected.

Good luck finding the coastline you are looking for!

bmsea,

I know what you mean about Hawaii. When I was young and naive I could not understand why the locals were sometimes so hostile to outsiders, besides wanting the best waves for themselves

But when you look at where Hawaii was in terms of natural beauty and pollution say 50 years ago compared to now it is really sad. I just saw a special on the nature channel showing the devastation to the reefs, fish and entire ecosystem.

Maybe some of that destruction can be reversed. But I bet a lot of it cannot with the current population living there
