So, my wife and I went early to Tacoma to their 'Freedom Fair'. They had closed off Rustin Way which is along the waterfront, lined the street with bandstands, booths, and wine gardens and ending with a ventage auto show. There was an air show over the bay almost all day. Tacoma reminds me of a great little all American conservative city, like Seattle was 50 years ago. What really pleased me was how nearly all the apartment buildings and homes in the area were having a party in their front yards. I would call this real happy and congenial old-fashioned neighborliness of a small town that you won't find in Seattle, even thought the two towns are so close to each other. What was missing was an old-fashioned circus and carnival with the big top circus tent, carnival acts with their side shows and rides. If they had that, it would be the PERFECT 4th of July.
OH yes, they're having firworks tonight as the yachts were lining up out in the bay. But, we will be seeing the fireworks in Seattle in the comfort of our living room.
