Seattle is approximately 600 miles farther north than Kansas City. Putting Kansas city at about the same latitude as places in California. Trust me even one hour difference of sunlight any time of the year makes a huge difference to a person.

Especially if you live in a darker cloudy climate like Seattle. Seattle averages 58 totally clear days a year compared to 120 in Kansas City... In December the sun sets in Seattle around 4:18 pm. In Kansas City it sets at 4:55 pm.

There is a noticeable difference.

First snowfalls around the state lately! Mostly in the mountains and on the eastern side though. Some locations on the western side have been seeing lows in the 20s overnight recently. We're lined up for another La Nina year, here's to hoping we get plenty of cold and snow!

Special Weather Statement for Seattle/bremerton Area, WA

Issued by The National Weather Service
Seattle/Tacoma, WA

Tue, Nov 8, 2011, 4:18 PM PST

Updated Nov 8, 2011, 10:00pm PST

... COOL WEATHER WILL BRING SIGNIFICANT SNOW TO THE MOUNTAINS BEGINNING THIS WEEKEND...
SNOW WILL FALL AT TIMES IN THE MOUNTAINS THIS WEEKEND AND NEXT WEEK. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL FALL FROM AROUND 5000 FEET ON FRIDAY TO 2500 FEET MONDAY... AND THEN STAY AROUND THAT LEVEL FOR AT LEAST A FEW MORE DAYS. A SERIES OF WEATHER SYSTEMS WILL BRING SNOW TO THE MOUNTAINS DURING THIS PERIOD. HOWEVER EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO WEATHER SYSTEM IN THE PICTURE... COOL AND MOIST NORTHWESTERLY FLOW WILL KEEP SNOW FALLING IN THE MOUNTAINS.
IT MAY HAPPEN THAT NO PARTICULAR DAY DURING THIS PERIOD WILL HAVE HEAVY SNOW... AND MODELS DO NOT SHOW HEAVY SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH ANY PARTICULAR SYSTEM. BUT THE SNOW WILL SLOWLY PILE UP. BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK AT LEAST A FEW FEET OF NEW SNOW IS LIKELY TO HAVE FALLEN.
THERE WILL BE RAINY PERIODS IN THE LOWLANDS AS WELL. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE 40S WITH LOWS IN THE 30S. SOME WINDY PERIODS ARE ALSO LIKELY... ESPECIALLY ON THE COAST AND OVER NORTHERN AREAS.

Have fun there in Seattle when it snows - you realize almost nobody in that town has any clue how to drive in snow, and you know how hilly it is there if you live there...

That said it has been a weird, cold fall here in the Eastern half.

They don't know how to drive in the rain here either. So pathetic! I've lived here my whole life so yes I know, and somehow I can drive in both rain and snow just fine and nobody else around here can lol. So yes, BRING IT ON! (Despite all stupid drivers lol).

Can't wait to relocate to a place with a REAL winter on a yearly basis!

Seattle people would rather throw on the studded tires and tear up the roads than learn how to drive. False sense of security is a dangerous thing.

Sunrise is also after 7am in winter, and at about 5am in the summer).
Moderator cut: edited per request And when there are overcast skies (as happens a lot, especially in Western Washington, during this time of year), we are often cheated out of our twilight time.
