BTW: Wenatchee is an excellent choice for east side quality of life.

College, shopping, services, Healthcare, recreation, strong arts program, strong community ties, and EXCELLENT public transit within region. (Leavenworth to Chelan !!!)

Some of the best access to we_tside needs (international airport) / I-5. and a decently managed county. (room for improvement).,

BUT: Wenatchee is AG centric. Your neighbors might be spraying, cultivating, harvesting their CROPS Kids might come to school with manure on their boots from being up since 4AM milking cows.

Some city folks really freak out about that (for legitimate reason), but often too alarmist for ease of relationships and comfort of living within an AG neighborhood. Please be a good neighbor WHEREVER you land. (and respect and enjoy their values needing to be prominent (for good reason).)

I work extensively with people in Hood River, OR (A trendy AG centric community) It is VERY difficult for all to be HAPPY and smudge pots, wind machines, helicopters all night (frost) and seasonal spraying and burning for disease control can cause misery for some residents who are unaware buyers.

I'm with you, I can't take any more of the horrid non stop drizzle we get outside of the summer months here!!! At 28 years, having lived all of them in Seattle, I'm done. My goal is to be living east of the Cascades within the next 5 years or less. Give me an arid climate any time over this! Thank god there are so many arid climate haters, like you say, more space for us!

Nice post. Except there are no dairies what-so-ever in the Wenatchee area, and very few in North Central Washington at all.

yes, very few dairies remain in WA AT ALL, thanks to Christine's previous position with WA DOEcology

I just drove through ID today and the WA dairies are THRIVING there

True, not much opportunity for Manure remains in N Central WA, the the opportunities still exist!

Wenatchee is really a nice town, especially considering the OTHERS!

I lived in Wenatchee for a few years and loved it. Close to the mountains and the forests while enjoying sunnier weather than west of the cascades. The apple loop trail was great and it was close to Lake Chelan and Leavenworth.

Clarification is needed. Are PNW residents really that active in the outdoors? I have visited numerous websites to learn about your state. One of the perks is always the mountains and ocean. My question is -When do people find time to be so active outdoors if it rains so much west of the Cascades? The best I can come up with is 2-3 months of good weather.

We_t siders do everything in the drizzle that they normally do when dry, just that they are 'wash-n-wear' and shiver a lot (at soccer and baseball games watching their kids). Seattle city folks all stand in coffee line shivering with the trademarked 'Seattle two handed grasp'.

When you garden U get muddy, when U bike you get a dirty stripe up your front and your back.

During the 2-3 months of dry... you are working your buns off patching the roof, building fences and barns, trenching in new drainage ditches, cutting firewood, landscaping, mowing the lawn (field), painting the house, weeding and harvesting the garden,... little time for R&R till the rain starts.

We pay no attention to the rain, and go hiking, boating, and biking almost all year. The rain is mostly a very light misty drizzle. Today for example, I walked about a mile in the rain with no jacket or umbrella and was not very wet. Even with 6" of snow people are out walking.

I have been here 20 years and only saw the ocean maybe twice, because it's 2-3 hours away and there isn't much to do there. It's the mountains, rivers, lakes, creeks, and Puget Sound that are the water attractions.

I think people who grew-up over on the Westside don't even notice the drizzle.

Myself, I was extremely excited when I moved over there from the Dryside, because I had assumed that, since the winters in Western WA were much milder, and there was rarely snow on the ground, that I would be able to do a lot more stuff outdoors, even in the winter, than I ever could in Eastern WA.

Turns out, though (and again, maybe because I didn't grow up over there), I got REALLY sick of the requisite sprint from house-to-car-to-work, trying to avoid getting constantly rained on. And always worrying about any outdoor plans being rain-delayed.

That, and the fact that 40 degreesF with gray, overcast skies and 90% humidity feels MUCH colder than 20 degreesF with a foot of snow on the ground in the blinding sunlight.

That is what I worry about. The gray. I go nuts here in the Midwest if it is overcast for a week. It would be nice to get away from the snow for a milder winter but I don't know if I could last through a season of drizzle.
