Hastings closed all their stores within the past year. I really miss them. There are really no other retail stores that offer old videos, old books, old records/dvds anymore. Of course there is ebay and Amazon, but it isn't the same. The tactile feeling is perhaps gone forever. Sad.

There were many Hastings in the Spokane area, also in Tri-Cities and other areas. Can this type of store still exist today? Or have we moved to a point where everything is now only available on-line?

Yes, I miss Hasting's. I guess Amazon beat them out with pricing. But I loved cruising the aisles for sports glasses, DVD's to buy or rent and CD's. It was always fun to go shopping at Hasting's.

I do. I used to shop at the one in Flagstaff and was happy to find them in Spokane. I live near the South Hill store. Sad to see it empty every day (other than when the Halloween store is operating).

Back in the day of video rentals, when I was living in Wenatchee, Hastings was a staple. You went to the grocery store and then stopped by Hastings.

More recently, my brother-in-law, who's slightly geek-y, used to come over from Western WA and had to stop by the one on Wellesley in Spokane to buy comic books and obscure movies. He was really bummed when they went out.

Doubt it... don't recall seeing any on We_tside. but would have been a better choice (Western WA is not fibered to the extent Eastern WA is). Amazon is NOT an option on the we_tside regions W/O internet

But My TX home (for the 280 days / yr of WA drizzle...) had a very popular Hastings, which transitioned to an employee owned similar business. Nice 'non-trendy' coffee shop. (I.e. <$1 for various brews.)

Amazon / online business is stripping brick and mortar (for consumer items), similar in many sectors (replacement parts, news, ...). That creates significant challenges to those of us who used to sift through Hardware stores looking for 'something' to fix oddball appliances / items.

Gone... changing times.. +/- but I hope we get internet at home someday! (unlikely in federally restricted CGNSA)

Not that I know of. My brother-in-law went to Cheney for school, and talked about how he loved going to Hastings when he lived there, and how he missed it when he went back to the Westside. He was happy to visit us, but I'm fairly sure the only reason he bothered to come over here was to go to Hastings. We'll see if he ever makes it back over here.

I don't remember seeing one over there either, but then, I'm no expert about Western WA.

We have been in Western WA for 24 years and I have never heard of Hastings, so if it was here, not in the Puget Sound Area. There was a Hastings store near the University of WA but it was just a book/video/music store and went out of business a few years ago. Probably not related.

Hastings WAS a book/video/music store. I don't know if the one you are describing was part of the chain, but it sure sounds like it. They had stores in Spokane, Tri-Cities, Moses Lake, Yakima, and Boise, ID as well as other Rocky Mountain and Midwest locations.

I miss Hastings too, but, nearby there is Adventures Underground, an excellent used-book store, has some new books too, and a lot of games, comics, etc. I actually always like AU better anyway.
