Western Oregon to Western Washington.
Biggest difference is the weather; Western Washington is more moderate, cooler in the summer and warmer in the summer than western Oregon.
Everything that Oregon does, Washington does the opposite. Idaho does a little of both.

I moved over from Idaho.

Washington state is totally OWNED by the corporations. Both Senators would NOT even answer a letter on changing retirement laws. Really, they don't want to hear from you unless your a MAJOR contributor.

Compare this to Idaho, where I even got a handwritten letter from a Legislator telling me why I WAS WRONG in my comments in the letter. Hey, he read it.....and answered it. More than I ever got from a Federal representative in Washington.

I can cite story after story where the corporations get their way over the objections of state and local residents. I am totally disgusted. Look I don't appreciate being a "corporate serf" in this state.

Also, Washington state is basically western Washington. The state government does not consider eastern Washington anything but a colony for resource exploitation.

NOT proud to be a Washingtonian.

We always said the 5th of July, it used to always rain on the 4th. Also, you can’t plant summer vegetables until Mother’s Day.

Something to watch out for when you move to WA: the DMV did not require that I include my middle initial on the driver’s license. It was on my previous state’s license, a requirement there. WA automatically leaves it off even if your old license shows it, though you can specifically ask to include it.

Also, at that time WA did not comply with federal regulations for driver’s licenses. Because of that, when I moved BACK to my previous state, I had to jump through extra hoops—with extra expense—to prove that I am legally in the US and am a US citizen. This was despite the fact that the DMV still had my file on record from BEFORE I had moved to WA.

It was as if I went from being a legal citizen to maybe-not-a-legal-citizen just because I had lived in WA for a few years.

Strange thing though I don’t know if it is unique: a trailer can have either a regular license plate or a tiny plate like what motorcycles bear. Owner’s choice.

Very weird to me: Most people did not install bug screens on their windows, even though there definitely were unwanted bugs around (flies, moths, wasps, gnats, even some mosquitoes). People insisted there were no bugs. Strange denial...

Strangest things we found moving to western Washington from the east coast.

Few bugs in the summertime
Late start to summer
Cool summer nights and mornings (beautiful!)
A love of RVs and hot tubs not found in the east
People put Tide on their roofs to combat moss. We were driving around totally confused at this white powder on everyone’s homes.
Water features! I think this is an entire west coast thing but we always found it hysterical that real estate listings brag about water features in a place where it rains all the time.

It's not Tide... it's Tri Sodium Phosphate.

I guess opinions differ. In my neighborhood people use Tide!

Heh... well, I guess it might work if it has bleach in it... OK! I stand potentially corrected.

We do see a lot of white powder on roofs in the spring. MOST (?) is probably TSP.

It is surprising to have houses without screen doors, too.

We have always had screens on all our windows and doors. In fact, since many don't have air conditioning, being able to open the windows in summer is even more important than warmer places.

Maybe that's a quirky thing... most businesses have ac.. but many homes do not!

Our windows are open all summer, and we couldn't do that without screens. We don't have the big huge biting flies they have other places, but we do have small house flies, and mosquitoes.
