Newport, WA. I’m not finding anything from searches.

Can anyone tell me anything they know about this area? Crime? Internet access? Etc.

TIA

Good luck with that, I remember passing through there a few years ago, and it's a tiny little town with maybe 2,000 people. There was a Safeway with gas, but for most major shopping you would go to Spokane, about an hour drive. It's probably too small to be considered on most websites, but I did find one that showed there crime rate as 11 out of 100, with 100 being the best.

I don't know if the smelter actually moved in over the protest of the locals. I haven't seen any updates. Maybe someone else here knows what happened.

It's a pretty area.

It has been years since I have been in Newport. Nice town, really a suburb of Spokane.

Crime??

Minor, most everybody owns a gun.

Internet access???

Some of the best in the nation. The local county government provides the internet access in most areas. It would have been better, but the city of Seattle used their political muscle to keep the county from condemning and taking over dam operations. It is the ONE dam in eastern Washington that the city of Seattle does NOT want removed!!!

Weather???

You didn't ask. Awful. As bad as Alaska. Just hideous. Few places in the western US that are worse.

I used to live outside of Priest River and was in Newport most days.
Not a ton of crime at all. Definitely a small timber town.
Internet should be good.

Can you be more specific about the weather? Lots of snow? Low temps? Really hot in summer? Humid?

Thanks!

Apparently part of the Spokane metro. Which is odd because it is 47 miles away. But probably will eventually grow as more are working from home.

Depends on the winter.
Generally colder and snowier than Spokane. We had a couple of winters where the national guard was called out to shovel the high school roof so it didn’t collapse. Lots of other roofs did.
When we lived in the area we had temps plunge to -28 once but that is not the norm. Usually it stays over zero.

Summers are hot and dry after 4th of July. It rarely rains again till September. Temps over 100 aren’t uncommon. Summer nights are lovely though.

Humidity is low.
