Holy crap that is dry. And to think I was about to complain about having hardly any rain for the last two weeks.

Still, I had storms forecast for yesterday and Sunday, and of course I got nothing. I am not happy to say the least.

There hasn't really been much of a heatwave here so far, with no days reaching 36C, despite several forecasts from the BOM of 37C. Maybe today will be the hottest as it has already reached 29.5C at 9am, though southwest winds will start to gradually cool things down later. BOM only have a forecast of 35C today.

It reached 36C today here. Looks like my suspicion this morning was right. I can see smoke from a big fire to the south, which is not surprising after the very low humidity and strong winds today.

The dew point actually stayed quite high in Brisbane today until about 4pm when the dry (and slightly hotter) air came in from the west. Take a look here: Latest Weather Observations Brisbane Although the temperature rose the apparent temperature became lower as a result of lower humidity and an increase in wind speed. The maximum was about 38C/100F, 1C below forecast. That's their highest since February 2008. I also noticed that Tewantin on the Sunshine Coast recoreded 39.7C, a new record for them. Looks like much cooler weather ahead. Brisbane Forecast

I'm glad I'm not in Tasmania right now: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDT60...01.95959.shtml

Perth had its warmest temperature since March today, 38.2C. Seabreeze came in about half an hour ago and has dropped the temperature to 32C. Decent thunderstorms to the east of Perth but doesn't look like there'll be much here for awhile, may get something later tonight or tomorrow.

Not sure the grain farmers would be too impressed with these storms though, they've been fairly regular over the past month, delaying harvest and decreasing the quality of their crops.

Fortunately, with the last 2 years being quite wet, there is still good amounts of ground moisture not too far down. Lots of long, dry grass around though - not good if there is a fire. Forecast for heavy rain tonight -here's hoping.

Yesterday days temps went from 27C/80F down to 5C/42F - I thought it felt a wee bit nippy this morning.

Lovely warm day here and a mild night too, currently 19 C at 12:15 AM. Going for a high of 25 C tomorrow. I think this must be the best start to summer I've ever seen. I only hope it will last.

Wow, 35 C with a 23 C dewpoint? How did you find it, ADGreen?

I was stuck inside most of the day dealing with (yet another) work crisis. I popped out a couple of times and it was the sort of heat that would make doing anything difficult. My leg injury means I am not walking very much which is probably just as well...

Our house is a hot house tonight so we've been trying to circulate the air by opening the windows with the fans on.

I've almost forgotten what it is like to feel cold. I was surprised by the cool evenings here in winter, but since about mid September, it has been one long summer. Nothing new to the locals, but noticeable to one with Oceanic origins.

Coming from a cold oceanic climate like Melbourne, where the normal temps are under 20C half the year, with sub-20C highs still common in December, I think it would take me a couple of years to acclimatise even to Brisbane.

Oh yeah, 18C today and 18C tomorrow here after an overcast 20C on Sunday and Monday Summer off to a very appropriately cold gloomy oceanic start

Belmonth Airport recorded 33.6ºC. Why so much difference with your data??

The same in Brisbane. My data (from Ogimet) is 30.9ºC recorded there yesterday.
