Invercargill weather can certainly change in 5 minutes. It's a very impressive feature of the climate there imo - actually, the only impressive feature of the climate really.
Well, using your definition, Phoenix has means ranging from 54-97, so:
Winter: 64 to 54 to 64; Nov 21st-Mar 8th
Spring: 65 to 86; Mar 9th-May 30th
Summer: 87 to 97 to 87; May 31st-Sept 25th
Fall: 86 to 65; Sept 26th-Nov 20th
It would seem that the shoulder seasons are too short and the dominant seasons (winter/summer) are too long, not sure that I agree with it
I think it makes sense that the dominant seasons would be the longest, since that's what temperatures peak/valley and they also variate least from month to month. Also, it would of course vary from place to place, some places have more seasonal delay than others obviously.
Another one is when we have a couple of weeks of warm and sunny conditions in April, and people will say 'that's our summer', even though May-Sep will offer far more warmth.
You'd think the average person would know about the climate where they live!
People say ''if you don't like the weather in (city), just wait five minutes!", as if it was something unique and special. But people actually say this in a million places!
oh boy people love to say this about melbourne
It's actually true for a portion of the year - mostly in spring. Other than that, it's fairly consistent. Especially in winter. And I'm not ****ing counting intermittent showers in between cloudy periods because that's literally normal, I mean stuff like it'll be sunny and 18C, then hail showers come through dropping the temp to 9-10C.

The one thing I found in Rochester was if you didn't like it warm/hot, it would always cool down quickly, but if you didn't like it cool/cold, you'd die of old age waiting for warmth to return. It sucks, glad I got out of there!

It's true with some summer thunderstorms in Florida. Maybe 15 minutes.

I find it annoying when people say that every time it storms here 15 mins later it's sunny.....what happens much more frequently is that it'll storm, and remain overcast for at least a couple of hours after if not the whole day. It storming and the sun coming minutes later does happen but the other scenario is much more frequent.
