Thanks! Yeah that's why we need Ground OBS especially with this type of storm.

NJ and even Western Long Island reporting Ice, mix and snow while radar is not showing it.

Not a big deal since everything is going to turn to rain but ice is dangerous even if its for a few minutes and its always interesting to see what each storm produces..

Kennedy Airport now reporting a mix

I just drove 12 miles in icy rain. Take your time and slow down while driving.

although the radar shows it is snow coming down in my area I just looked outside and it looks like a light rain falling... probably freezing rain but hard to tell since I'm looking out the window.

Are you hearing a loud tup tup sound and seeing pellets bounce off your driveway or parking lot. Then its freezing rain.

Check it out.... Harrisburg, PA 1pm sounding, next to the actual OBS, radar & 850mb temps..

OBS shows and confirms freezing rain was falling
850 temps are above freezing as shown on the right but the sounding also shows it.

It's snowing down to 8000' above Harrisburg but then goes above freezing and melts the snow to rain and then there's a Small layer below 33° under 2600 feet and a tiny layer under 32°F which is enough to refreeze the drops into ice.

Cool stuff.

Should not last long....any mix should change to rain fast as the warm air is really surging in now.

Those southerlies are bringing up that warm air off the southern Atlantic. It is kind of nice to see the power of that Atlantic Ocean even a few days away from the start of December:

24 F at Hazleton, PA ….and 43 F in New London, CT and 45 F in Westhampton, Long island.

I'm really surprised Mt. Holly hasn't issued Flash Flood Watches for anyone... I understand they have certain criteria's to warrant issuing the watches but I mean I still think they should have. Especially with the run looking to runoff more because the ground is frozen and leaves potentially blocking drainage areas.... with 2 - 4 inch rain fall projections I'm definitely surprised.
