Yeah I think the coldest for me was when the pool malfunctioned at swimming practice, around 16C, and stayed in there for about an hour. I've also gone swimming in waters around 17-19C several times in Britanny, Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Also walked across the Grand River (ON) in April when it was probably at most 10C but the water was only a bit more than knee deep at the deepest.
Ice rescue training .we cut through 6" of ice to wear Gumby suits and practice moving a rescue board in the water with a victim.
Second event was in the winter no ice but using a hooka ,diving down in pure blackness and by pure feeling around securing a mast on a barge that had capsized. under about 20 minuets two wet suits and only one skull cap
Third event during winter recovering lost customer dock systems , slipped on the dock and went in fully clothed . no shielding from the wind for 30 minuets or so .core temp really dropped . Serious stuff.
around 23 or 24 degrees celcius. or around 73-75 F. September 2013 bandung. Start to lost dexterity after 15 minutes!!!
Minimum range to be comf. swimming is 80-82 F, or 27-28 C.
I've swum in the sea off Britain every month from April to November; April the water was about 10C and was quite bearable as the air was 20C with sunshine so warmed up and dried quickly. In autumn the sea can be 15C into October so often feels warmer than the air.
