The sun angle isn't exactly noticeably lower here than June and July. Starts off at 82 degrees, and ends at about 72-73 degrees. Yes lower, but it's hard to notice when the temps are at their peak for the year. I do notice a lower, but still harsh sun in September though.
I like early summer more too, I also don't mind heat as much in early summer either. Once mid-August comes around however it gets tiresome (been hot for months already) and there is absolutely no end in sight yet. I think mid-late August is the worst time of year down here, IMO.
Also early summer sees better thunderstorms, probably because a greater land/sea temperature difference + stronger sun = better convection. Late summer is better for tropical development though.
Second half of August seems to get fewer wet days, more clear skies than earlier in the summer. Peak sun angle is noticeably lower, but more obvious since the days are shorter so the sun sinks down faster, too.

High pressure seems to dominate more in August than earlier in the summer. I wonder why?
Also, in late summer do you notice you get valley fog more often than in early or mid summer?
The shortening of the days has been noticeable since mid-July or so I'd say. At the start of July the sun set at 9:40pm. Now it sets at 9:01pm. On the very last day of August it will set at 7:59pm (though last year all of August had sunsets after 8pm).
People here love to act like we get four seasons lol. I've seen so many can't wait till fall posts for "hoodie wearing, halloween" blah blah blah. Yeah, can't wait for our hoodie inducing 30/23 C October weather.
