Yep. I would rather have temperatures hovering around 0F than to have 100F+. You can always put on more clothes, but there is a limit as to how much you can take off. And as far as dangerous weather goes, more people die each year from heat than from cold.

You're best bet is to ask them. Most likely a blend of them maybe weigh more on one than another but no idea which. It's a tough business to forecast. I'm glad I'm not a forecaster.

Most of those cities saw colder weather as recently as 2014.

I prefer heat over cold anyday. During the warmer months, I am out and about enjoying life.

Now, with this horrible cold weather, I’m imprisoned indoors.

100 dry heat is much easier to deal with. You just need an AC. No need to shovel snow or worry about driving.

First -40F of the winter for the lower 48 states.

-41F in Cotton, Minnesota this morning.

National High and Low Temperature (for the contiguous United States)
ALTERNATE LINK

In southern wisconsin, it's very cold for only having a little snow. There's maybe 1 inch on the ground at best. How much colder would it be with a thick layer of snow, 3-5 degrees colder?

Coldest 7 day periods for Amherst, MA. Date is the last day of the seven day period. Max was the mean daily maximum of the period, min was the mean daily minimum of the period, mean obviously the average of the two. February 2015 was either the coldest or second coldest month on record, but its coldest wasn't as cold as many earlier ones, Feb 2015 oscillated back and forth between extreme cold and merely cold and the daily maxima never were that extreme. So, where will next week end up?

Cambium, we are definitely in the deep freeze here in SW New Hampshire ... last night (Tuesday night) we had a low in the negative numbers, and that is expected to continue for the next week!!

I'm writing this at 1:11 a.m. on Wednesday night/technically Thursday morning and it is currently negative 2. Weather.com helpfully reports that it also FEELS LIKE negative 2 ... which is better than it feeling like, you know, negative 12. (I write that because we have a "wind chill advisory" until 9 a.m. Thursday!)

Just checked weather.com for the town next to me (Keene NH) for the overnight lows for the next week and a half and here they are:
- tonight -10
- Thursday night -10
- Friday night -7
- Saturday night -7
- Sunday night (New Year's Eve) -13!! (daytime will only reach 5!)
- Monday night -15!! (daytime will only reach 4!)
- Tuesday night -6
- Wednesday night 2 -- we're back in the positive numbers! It looks like we won't get back into the double digits overnight for a few more days, though -- low of 15 expected on Sunday 1/7/17. Temps look pretty normal after that, including some more snow expected.

I actually don't normally mind cold weather AT ALL (I'm usually inside, and inside is always toasty-warm!), but these temps are pretty striking even to me. We typically have one or two cold spells per winter but usually they last only a couple of days. THIS long a period is pretty unusual -- I am even using a small space heater in my basement, just in case ...

As long as my heat keeps working (brand new furnace PLUS my usually-reliable pellet insert for a roaring fire in the living room), I will be a happy camper. I'm on winter break for a few more weeks so I can sit at home with a book, a cup of hot chocolate, and a kitty (or two) on my lap.
