Where would you draw the boundary dividing Midwest from the West then?

Kansas has always been considered part of the Midwest. At least that's what I've been teach my students for the last 19 years when I cover geography.

It's definitely a transitional zone but geographically it's part of the Midwest. Officially the US Census labels it West-North Central region of the Midwest

High temp was 86F/30C at ORD 85F/29C at MDW and 84F/29C here at IKK today.

A line of storms associated with a cold front just passed through the northern suburbs

Houston is having some extremely warm nights. Their low temps equal our high temps

I'm surprised that with an average low of near 80 F / 27 C for two months of the year (79.7 F / 26.5 C in August, 79.4 F / 26.3 C in July) that it went 145+ years without a minimum of more than 85 F / 29 C. Even 86 F / 30 C seems far too chilly to be the all-time highest low, it's only about 6 F / 3 C above the average July-August low! I would have expected Galveston's record high minimum to be in the range of 90 F / 32 C.

85 is also the record highest low temperature in Nashville, TN set on July 14, 1954. Nashville's low temperatures at the hottest part of the year are around 70 F / 21 C.

High of 97 F / 36 C today, August 13, in Nashville, at least that's what Wunderground is saying (hasn't been finalized yet). This streak of no 100 degree days is getting annoying. The heat index was 109 F / 43 C anyway.

Also of note: no day in 2019 so far has exceeded the high of 97 F / 36 C on September 20, 2018. Today and July 20 tied it.

Crossville hasn't even gotten to 90 this year but they did at least once each year from 2016-2018. Nashville's seen 60 days of 90+ so far this year.
