The air temp was 38C or 101F and insane humidity and no wind.

Beer would stay cold long, but I golfed shot the second best game ever!
^^

Was that that freak record heat day in early June?

I remember it well.
It was a little gross inside in school (classrooms had no A/C) and it felt like even the walls were sweating,
but it was lovely outside at lunch/recess; just like being down south on vacation.
A nice "cool front" ended the heatwave and we dropped down to 31 C (88 F) one-to-two days later.
Temps lingered above 27 C (80 C) probably for the remainder of the week.
Good times.

(Our average June high is only about 75 F; lukewarm in the shade)

unfortunately, the most common phrase the weather bureau uses in summer here in their forecast is "cold front" ...................

They might have called it a cold front,
but I considered it a "cool-front" since it was a sharp, disctinct drop,
yet only dropped us down to 20-22 C overnight and 30-32 C in the day.
(from 2-3 days with 25+C overnight and 36+ C day )

Usually if we get a day at or above 95 F (35 C),
our highs back down into the high 70's (25-26 C) within 3-4 days.

July in summer of 1995 in Chicago area was the pitts, very hot, very humid. Don't remember how many days but the temperature was over 100 and with the humidity, it was just plain awful. No relief at night, I remember temps at night stayed near 80. There were so many deaths it was horrible.

In January 1982, the Chicago area had a spell of ten days of below zero temps, blizzard conditions and horrible wind chills. It was the coldest I ever experienced and I think it still holds records.

we've actually got cold fronts like that - this week the days have been around 30-35C and then in the afternoon the front comes thru and drops it to around 20-21 overnight.

sounds similar to here. Although unfortunately, on the weekend, a strong cold front will kill us, sending HIGH temps into the 60's I am positively disgusted.

On the subject of this topic, the highest temp I ever felt was 45.6ºC last friday.

Hmmm Well I won't have exact temps for you dxiw but I remember the days I felt the hottest and coldest.

I went hiking in the Kalbarri National Park WA back in 2002 I think, we had to climb down through the canyons and then back up to Nature's Window. It was a 40c+ day but in the canyons our guide did mention that it got up over 50c+. I believe he said 54c which is around 129F, (not 100% certain though) If not for the magnificence of the scenery it would have been a truly disgusting day. I spent a good deal of time in the swimming pool when we got back.

And the coldest I've experienced so far was most definitely a day in Ireland. I know it was below zero, I couldn't tell you how far but it was hideous! I've also been in below zero in NZ in Queenstown at Coronet Peak but it was soooo beautiful and we were rugged up well that it didn't bother me.
