FLAGSTAFF
, Ariz., March 12 (UPI) -- It's hard to believe but Flagstaff, Ariz., has had more snow this year than either Anchorage, Alaska, or Buffalo, N.Y., the National Weather Service says.
The weather service says Flagstaff has racked up more than 11 feet of snow so far and is on the way to recording one of its snowiest seasons ever, the Arizona Republic reported Friday.
Flagstaff's average annual snowfall is 100" while Anchorage's is 70". It's not really surprising that Flagstaff has had above average snowfall given the El Nino.
Buffalo's is 90".

It's about time! For the past 14 years (off and on), northern Arizona has experienced quite a few winters without much snow. The end result has been very little runoff by the time spring arrives ... and that is one of the main reasons the Southwest has been in a drought. The heavier snowpack this winter is long overdue!
On average, Flagstaff, AZ is one of the snowier cities in the United States because it sits at an elevation of nearly 7,000 feet, and is in the path of the Pacific jet stream during the winter months. Therefore, it's safe to say that this winter's snowfall in Flagstaff has been only slightly above normal. That is likely due to the effects of El Niño ... and this year's El Niño has been pretty mild compared to a few others in the past that I remember quite well.
Dosen't Flagstaff average more snow than those 2 cities anyway? It's not really surprising that they've had more snow then Anchorage or Buffalo....It's not due to "strange weather patterns" even with "normal weather patterns" they would have more snow anyway lol and el nino means a wet winter for the southwest..

I believe Buffalo, NY tends to get more DAYS of snowfall during the winter because they are on the coast of Lake Erie, and receive those frequent "lake effect" snows. But in terms of the amount of snowfall, Flagstaff beats both Anchorage and Buffalo on the average.
Flagstaff may not receive as many days of snow during the winter because they are still considered in the Sunbelt, even though it sure doesn't seem like it. It's pretty typical for a place like Flagstaff to receive two or three consecutive days of heavy snow, followed by several days of clear skies before the next storm arrives. It's not an ongoing snow event like in the NE, but the quantities tend to be higher in Flagstaff (likely due to the high elevation).
I just reserve for a family reunion there over Easter
Good News!!!!
