What gets me is that he is suppose to be representing all AMERICANS! He is not just someone off the street, that I can roll off but for him to make comments like that publicly is just wrong.
If Cheney had been making fun of a religion, racial group, or nationality there would be an uproar nationally. Evidently it is all right to make fun of West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee or any southern state as being ignorant, inbred, or just plain stupid. Talk about bigotry, this was a prime example. Sadly, Cheney was making a tired old regional joke.
If you are from the east coast you are rude, west coast you are a flighty hippie, red necks or hicks in the middle, simple folk in the north, corruption in the south blah blah blah.
You get hit with these jokes all the time...watch a Jay Leno monologue.
Personally, I'd be more offended by the non-joking claim (from Cheney's relative's camp) that WV is populated by racist rednecks, resulting in Clinton's win there.
I personally find outrage over jokes has a strong correlation to political affiliation. *cough*
