It may be helpful to do more research and study more about Appalachian heritage and history.

Discussing politics and religion is the best way to make enemies.
lol, just peruse this forum for other cities and you will see liberals ask the same exact question, especially about a place like Greenville which has the reputation of being a conservative area. yet when a conservative does the same thing, you don't like it. I find that amusing.

how is discussing politics taboo? I have freedom of speech and it isn't like I am talking politics someplace where it is inappropriate. politics is an underlying theme on all of these internet forums about cities.

Susiesanartist- I play nice, but I also play realistic. That said, one's political leanings shouldn't prevent you from coming here because Asheville has so much more to offer than dirty hippies or bible thumpers. Gorgeous mountains, trails, hiking, food, unique beer, etc....... you would agree with this, yes?
blackngold

thanks for info, I think black mountain probably too far east for me, I like to eat out a lot and i'd rather be near some restaurant strip with some variety. I like the Hendersonville road area as far as options, i'll have to check out these other areas on google maps that you mentioned to see what is nearby.

I want to say it is around the REI store near the high school south of town and Biltmore? or maybe around other high school kind of southeast of town?

I like liberals as people just the ones who are in your face about about it can be annoying so I would prefer an area of Asheville more similar to people in South Carolina areas like Greenville, Columbia, Charleston.

Let me know where you decide to move to and if it's anywhere near me I will put my house up for sale.

BTW. I see the thread about the Raleigh protests was canceled, too political I guess. So what in Gods name is this thread if not blatantly political? Cheese and crackers! Let this be the last post....PLEASE!

lol, well they would have to cancel about 75 percent of the posts on this website if this is considered too political. I see liberals ask the same question in the Greenville forum all the time. Nobody minds. I don't see how asking about the political views of a certain area is irrelevant to city stuff. I don't want to move somewhere and be clearly surrounded by people who think Obama in the second coming and trust me, there are lot of people like that in this country. I just want some political diversity. I get the feeling from this board that there is some "intolerance" for conservatives in Asheville but people on here tend to be more liberal than most so I will take it with a grain of salt.

Two pieces of advice then. Stay out of the city limits, and avoid anything that has an HOA since they tend to attract left wingers for officers.

Asheville isnt bad, they're a mixture of liberals just like with conservatives..depends on your age as well... I find Asheville to be more young liberal compared to Hendersonville which is older crowd more conservative. I think you will find that this area is friendlier then say hipster liberals California, Colorado, Idaho I found those areas to be very unfriendly and not pleasant at all....The liberals in wnc are friendly down to earth not in your face aggressive, that Ive found. .I've made friends and gotten along fine with most even tho we have different view points. Tell you the truth I find them leaning more like libertarians just imo..even tho they call themselves liberal. Really best bet is to visit an area get out walk around and talk to people get a feel for the area that really is the only way you can tell if your going to like a place. There are going to be activists in any area. That's what I call them, neither liberal or conservative they're just activists. There is one in every crowd..

We are thinking of selling our house in Weaverville and moving to another area of the county. We would like to move to an area where there was not a right-wing Conservative within range of me being able to hear them whine. I know they are human beings in the general sense of the term but to have to put up with their incessant whining, rude behavior in social situations, waxing nostalgic about the past and St.Reagan and the need to strap a gun on their hip to water the garden is behavior that should be relegated to fenced in areas away from the general public.
I would appreciate it if anyone knows where one could move and not hear the terms "Comrade" "Socialist" Obbumer" "Marxist" "Agitator" Thanks a heap!

lol, well I think liberals are the whiners. And Asheville is kind of known for in your face liberals, ie rude people.

You guys are the ones who want to change the country into something different. I'm not sure why you protest the word socialist or Marxist b/c you do believe in both of those things. Socialists in Europe are confident enough to fly under that name. You can hardly get liberals to admit they are liberals in America, preferring progressive instead. It just seems like you are insecure if being accurately labeled a Marxist/socialist/liberal bothers you. I don't complain if somebody calls me a conservative, for example. and we just lost two elections in a row pretty bad although Romney/McCain not all that conservative.

You never see conservatives downtown in a city protesting this or protesting that outside of the Tea Party thing but even the Tea Party protests are much different than a liberal protest.

What is the purpose of your inquiry? moving to Asheville? or baiting a political argument?
