Late Spring here in the mountains...some severe looking storm clouds built up across the Waynesville valley, over Pisgah and Cold Mtn. A little rain on horizon, but we dodged the boomers. Shot from our deck, at ~5,000 ft elevation.

Blackberry Winter, as the area multi generation people would say...
Had 36 degs F this morning, with some frost on the deck, and it is supposed to get down to near freeze or worse, by early morning up here.

Chased the ball today at LRCC in our early season MemberMember, in the rain, wind and ~50 degs tops.

Have to be on the tee at ~9:00 AM tomorrow, Sat, and it will be a struggle... would be a good day to sleep in.

Covered up some of the plants I could, but just have too many. Hope my variety of perennials and smaller decorative trees can tough it out. The big native trees have barely leafed: they know better.

Looks like an Autumn sky, not middle of May. Some flurries are falling out of the sky now at 10:00 PM, but not sticking. C'mon Spring!

Dodged Mother Nature's Indifference, at least up here: it was only ~34 degs at wake up/walk up the Mtn time, this morning.

If I hadn't covered up all that I could last night it probably would have been colder...off to chase some badly hit balls at 2nd day of Mem-Mem, at LRCC. Please, no rain!

I always enjoy everyone's photos on this thread since I live in the flat part of the Indy metro area. It sounds like this is the winter that really won't go away. No more "polar vortex" but still fairly cool/cold in our area as well. It may be a while, but our GSMNP trip is late Sept., so hopefully things get warm and stay nice for hikes up to LeConte and Plott Balsam.

Rhododendrons in bloom...
Large, native rhodies running along a steep slope creek, on Eagles Nest Mtn road.

Last May there were few blooms; this Spring brought lots of blooms, probably an effect of the very abundant precip we had all last year.

Canon 40D, ISO 640, f13, 1/6th of a second hand held. Canon EF-S 15-85mm lens at ~17mm focal length...cleaned up lightly, in Lightroom. Wish I had brought my tripod, as I shot this about 5:15 PM yesterday, and it was cloudy and tucked in dark shadows, westerly...Thanks for looking!

Love those feathery green trees in the background, too. Nothing wrong with that photo at all. Wonderful color and composition.

Greening up the Mountains...it has now "Green'd", for most of us, even up here at the higher elevations.
A shot looking E/SE from our deck early this eve, as the setting sun played on the mtns across from us.
The Cold Mtn on left edge of frame, and Wolfpen Mtn in middle ground at right center. The house on the left 'shoulder' of Wolfpen is owned/lived in by one of the inventors of the modem. Interesting gentleman, who has lived up there in somewhat solitary, for a long time.

Almost all the trees are leafed out, with a few old white and red oaks still just barely leafing; the older the tree, the slower it is/smarter, to fully leaf, I think.
Thanks for looking.
