My wife and I are looking to purchase 3-10 acres under 100,000 in the Boone, Blowing Rock area. We love the outdoors, hiking and nice parks are a must. We want to escape the NE Florida area someday and build a home in North Carolina. If anyone could lend any information on a good realitor or any useful tips we would be thankful. Also suggestions to other areas that have a small town feel would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...Davidfaith

Hi Davidfaith, I am also lookingt to escape NE Florida for NC. Where are you and your wife? I'm in Fernandina right above Jacksonville I am looking into Lenoir, NC. From what I understand it really has a small town feel. Someone mentioned "it was stuck in time". Sounds good to me. I believe Lenoir is within 10-20 minutes from the mountains. Good Luck!

We're in the San Marco area of Jacksonville. Nice and convenient. I will research the area you listed and maybe we can share ideas along the way.
Take good care |

I have a friend who bought in an area called "Buck Mountain" that you might be interested in. He was telling me about a lot there with its own waterfall that he would have bought except that his wife fell in love with a long range view lot. I believe he paid $65,000 for 3 acres.

Loves Mountains, is Buck Mountain in Tn? Btw, I agree w/ you that 3-10 acres might be impossible to find in Boone/Blowing Rock...I do suggest you check out Homes and Land mag online and you can read the entire High Country edition! Good luck! Annie

You might check out Burnsville, which is between Blowing Rock and Asheville. There is a lovely little town square, and you are close to hiking, Blue Ridge Parkway, etc. I PM'ed you with a link to an excellent realtor based there if you're interested.

Wilkes and Ashe Counties still have some reasonably priced land. I believe you might also be able to find some less expensive land heading southeast on 321 away from Blowing Rock...but at lower elevations that won't be nearly as mild in the summer.

I would head east on 421 and north to Ashe County. Ashe has elevations and views that beat Blowing Rock hands down! Just have to know where to look . . . Be aware that the Phoenix Mountain development has driven up land values in the center of the county, near Jefferson and West Jefferson. Not nearly as high as Blowing Rock or Watauga County though. Too bad the ski resort fell through. Ashe needed that booster shot! It's my favorite county out of all the high-country counties. I'm glad it's keeping it's character and charm better than Watauga.
