Which ones do you have and are the closest? Is the Walmart on Tunnel Rd, the closest?

The Asheville Mall is on Tunnel Rd., both sides of the road. Several big box stores there.

Also up the road a bit is Kohl's, Michael's, and a few others. Plenty of restaurants and fast food places.

Off the I-26 exit at Rt. 191 you have the Asheville Outlet Mall.

If you want BIG big box stores, it is an easy trip down I-26 to Greenville SC, about 50 miles.

Thank you! I was surprised they don't at least have a Walmart Neighborhood Market in West Asheville. They do have Aldi though What about dollar stores?

There is not a Walmart on Tunnel Road. Walmart Supercenter #1317, River Bend Marketplace, 125 Bleachery Boulevard, Asheville, North Carolina 28805-8209, would be the closest.

Neither West Asheville nor western Buncombe County have a Walmart Supercenter. Ingle's is dominant.

One development I would monitor is Enka Center in Enka. A hypermarket or a supermarket could work there.

"Dollar stores" are everywhere. Family Dollar; Big Lots; Dollar Tree; etc. etc. Too many to recall. Several Aldis. Important though: you will find that telling most folks around here your wishes for what you have or had somewhere else will not be received very well. You may be invited to drive in a certain direction on the interstate out of town.

I think most of us in Asheville DON'T want a Walmart "neighborhood" market. Of all the parts of town, West Asheville would be the least likely to allow one in. I can see the protesting now.

The only true "big box" stores within West Asheville proper that come to mind are Kmart and Lowes hardware. There is a dollar store by kmart.

Thinking of leaving Greenville, Beckycat?
