Yeah, I'm looking forward to exploring all that up there when I get a chance.

I bet if you really wanted to most people could drop everything and move. It's risky but not impossible.

Florida is so overcrowded and has a sun angle that can burn skin to a crisp. Yes, it has a very warm climate, but the latitude is far enough south to make me not even consider it as someone with a northern European background.

Cold climates can be dangerous to older people since they can't balance as well or take a fall. Also lower/none state income tax states are retirement friendly.

That is a generalized statement. You do realize that many mid-south and central states are prone to far more icing events in winter that are significantly more hazardous/slippery for the elderly compared to snow. The worst winters I ever experienced were those much further south that featured ice storms. I guess one could avoid those in Florida and a few other select locations but that is about it.

Vilas County has one of the highest vacancy rates in the nation.

It is the taxes.

I'm not retired, but I lived in Texas for many years.
No state tax, but the property tax and the sales tax are killers. There is no free lunch folks. Furthermore, the summers are abominable. Oh, and we have Rick Perry for governor. Well, you have Scott Walker, so that's a wash.

I don't think it's the weather. I'm guessing its the over taxation.
Ironically, the people running from this state are the over-paid public employees. They take and take from taxpayers and then run as soon as they can with their pensions in tow. I think we should pass a law that says public employee pensions are taxed no matter where the pensioner resides.
