They are egotistical snobs that are busy bodies going around spreading gossip and who has the bigger such and such.

Most corporate types, at least the executive and hardcore types, are going to be uptight. It's a power/status thing. Sure, they can try to feed me and everyone else the BS that they're 'progressive' and 'open-minded' and 'tolerant' and all the other new-management BS but maybe 1 of a 1000 of them really follow through on it. The average corporate environment is basically a battlefield. You've got the promise of having as much money (and power) if you're willing to step on your coworker. The idea that the corporate world is based on a meritocracy of any kind is some media fantasy. There are a lot of people who will easily sell out their soul and ethics for a piece of the corporate booty pie. Have I been tempted by it? I'll admit that I have a few times. But, I am always reminded that money and power will only gain a person so much in this world. To me happiness and freedom are worth far much more.

Want to know why corporate America and society in general don't value freedom or happiness? The people at the top don't value it at all. Don't try to convince me that the leadership on Wall Street actually values personal freedom. Granting freedom would take away all of that old money within a year. If the corporate world values its customers and employees so much, why take away that which is worth more than any amount of money or financial wealth? Absolute evil won't care what it has to do to gain or maintain power.

The problem is many corporate offices have become like cults in order gain competitive advantage- where your supposed to an all consuming love for company and dedicate your life, and love the leadership etc - when in reality they will fire you anytime they want. Now just its very prevalent in work with branding, performance reviews, corporate literature , but its also in any films, tv programs in lots of subtle ways which shapes people mindset to be corporate people. Coming into your career and openly saying you hate the job, and only do it for the money is almost like blasphemy.

A sort of mass brainwashing where you can't trust your fellow cult members completely.

I guess the key is to pretend to be part of the cult - and pick up your salary each month.
