So I had phone screening last Monday and found out Thursday that I didn't get the job. They told me that they decided select an internal candidate for the role after interviewing quite a few people. Ok, no big deal, totally understandable. Then I go on the job boards Friday evening and the exact same job was posted again which posted on Friday midday.

So I am assuming that no internal candidate was selected to fill the position. That they are indeed still looking. Why would they lie? What's the point? It just seems stupid. Was it to maybe sound nicer? If anything it makes me not want to ever apply with that company again.

I'd forget about that board, and go to the company's website to see if it's posted there. Those general boards like to repost old jobs just to boost their search and posting numbers. If in fact the job is open again it may not be that they lied, but they may have decided to add another opening and don't want to hire from the original group of candidates. In that case I would apply again, having a second chance you could only do better the next time.

Then why would they tell me that they selected an internal candidate to fill the role? I understand that sometimes in the first round you don't find the right person. Understandable. But if so then tell me something else that thanks for applying but we do not believe you will be a fit for the job, etc. From what I have seen it doesn't look like they selected an internal candidate. They still have the position posted on their website and actually three new positions were added on Friday under the company website as well. So they definitely chose not to remove the position.

I don't want to waste my time in applying again. I just interviewed on Monday...

It's possible that they selected someone else (were never going to choose you) and the other person didn't accept. That happens all the time.
