Yeah, FedEX is better. Right.

I recently had to send two packages, both went approximately the same distance and in fact they were located 8 miles from each other. FedEX wouldn't deliver to the one location so that one went USPS.

Cost for the FedEX delivery: $41.00.
Cost for the USPS delivery 8 miles away: $11.00.

Oh yes, additionally, they both went out the same day. USPS delivery was next day, FedEX was three days.

Delivery wise, the PO is the cheapest.

However, perhaps part of the problem they are losing money, is due to the sullen, overpaid customer service representatives, who think they will have jobs forever, regardless of their job performance.

A good example of why USPS is going out of business, and Fedex is profitable.

Which you have no basis to say without knowing the financials/COB of both.

Today we can get our bills online. we can pay our bills online. We can even have our bills paid directly from our checking accounts. At work we just went to electronic pay checks. We can even have our W2's sent to us electronically now. I just see less of a need for the postal service than in years past. Someday we just won't have a need for it.

How was that a good example? It was basically stating that the USPS did a great job and for less money!

I absolutely think we need to do something to maintain our post office - IF that means doing away with Saturday delivery, etc., then that is what we have to do.

I believe there are some in government that would love nothing more than to have the post office sink. It's just another form of 'big government' to them. I know some in the GOP have been wanting to privatize the PO for some time.

Google the healthcare mandate that is currently crippling the post office at this time.

I love getting mail. I still send out greeting cards (I hate online cards) and there are some things that you cannot get in an email such as tax bills, etc. (the IRS does it's communications through paper) Online is overrated and not always doable.

Not to mention that many businesses charge a "convenience fee" of $4 to $10 for paying on-line.

You can get everthing done with the IRS online. You can do your taxes online, you can pay your bill online, you can get a refund online. You can even opt out of using paper with the IRS.
