Because some jobs can't be done on the overnight shift. Have you ever worked it as part of your regular schedule? How did you feel at 7AM after working all night?
Because the bills still come at the end of the month even if you're in school?
I'm not sure I understand the question. Pretty sure the night shift makes up a pretty good chunk of america's workforce. Majority of retail chains have them. I used to be one at sam's club.
And +1 for how you feel at 7am. I find that a lot seem to think it's exactly the same as working days but they don't realize how hard it is to get sleep when all the daytime activity is going on outside. God forbid you live on a busy street and work night shift.

This could be the future of work.....don't be so quick to disregard this idea

I didn't disregard anything.
I questioned your "most". The reality is that "most" people aren't in school and working. "Most" people are already working.
Since I guessing you're young and haven't really been exposed to "work" as most of us older people have been I think you should be aware than there are now, and always have been, jobs that are done overnight or businesses which have 24 hour operations. Not everything is done in an office.
If it is economically worthwhile for a business to have 24 hour operation it will.

Yes. We have 2,000 employees, and on the operations side there are probably 200 that work at night all week, and some of the rest of us that work days in the office may get awakened at night if there's a problem. The rest normally work only weekdays 8-4:30. When times were tough I have worked a second
job at night, with little sleep, and it's not fun. I did work full time when in college, that meant less sleep too, and little social life, but I never had to take out big student loans.
Wouldn't our society be more productive if 1/4 of the population had a night schedule?
I can't even imagine doing something that crazy because it would leave me no time for myself at all. Who the hell wants a life like that?
That's why I feel if someone wants their Master;'s, they should live with their parents while they are going to school. Who wants to be on their own and trying to study and pay rent? Crazy
Actually how do people go to school and work at the same time, unless it is a fast food gig.
I knew someone who tried to have a professional job and go to school and it was too hard so she had to stop the school because of course the job was more important.
