I work in health care and make more than that for a 12 hour shift....when I do agency. It's such a demanding job and you have to be able to jump right in. After you do it for a while, it's kind of a drag. You go in, take the work assignments that no one else wants, work your butt off and get out. After that, the money just doesn't seem like it's a big deal.

I know others in the medical profession that make much more, and work way more than I choose to. They also have crazy mortgages and expensive vehicles, so they have to work to keep up with their lifestyles.

Get licensed and registered as a nurse, physician assistant, physical therapist or a respiratory therapist. Sign up with an agency or freelance. You'll make that and more....but you have to be flexible, be ready to work when they call and have a strong personality. It's not easy money....and getting the education to get the credentials takes time and big money.

Yeah, last time I got on a jury there was a perfusionist. He used to do that, used to charge $500-$1000/day. Got burnt out from it, now makes about half that working for one of the local hospitals rather than travelling all over.

Oh really now, please enlighten us on the median income of the city, cause it sure as hell isn't 100K. A simple internet search would have brought this to light. I can see you post a lot, probably most makes little sense like this.

I agree about the burnout factor, that's why I do it only a couple of shifts a week max! Working full time in a hospital is more stress, politics and drama than it is worth. Working agency fits my personality better.

Seriously, LOTS of jobs! Our 24 yr old son makes more than that per day working in the oil fields. Commercial drivers with Haz Mat certs, nurses, physical therapist, plumbers, electricians....not the average joe, but someone with special training or certifications can do well on income, especially if they are willing to put in the hours...but as pointed out...it sometimes gets so demanding that it gets old.

Folks just have NO idea....that is why I am happy to be in case management in the twilight of my career!!! (427 days until I retire, but WHO is counting??!?!?!)

When we lived in Hawaii, I saw TRAVEL NURSES WHO WOULD UP AND QUIT the demands were so taxing. They had free housing, free travel there and back (as long as they fulfilled their contracted time there) and great pay, but would still up and quit because of the demands and have to reimburse their travel there and home!

Of course, that does not mean that some of those people are living in their parents basement without a job and playing video games and posting on the internet all day...just like anywhere else in the world.
