Regardless of where you are in the United States, if you stop into a McDonald's you know what to expect. The buildings look fairly similar, the staff will be dressed in pretty much the same attire, and you'll be offered the chance to buy food that will make you spend the next four hours either sleeping or moaning as you regret your purchase. However, one location is very different. It's in Romeoville IL, and it's next door to what's known as the "McDonald's Innovation Center."
I've mentioned this before, but I went on a trip last year and about 250 miles from my house I stopped at one of those gas station super center type places and this one had 2 or 3 machines where you placed your food order, which went directly to the line folks working the grill. I thought "Wow. This is big. McDonalds is going to be doing this soon."

I've used them at Sheetz and in my opinion they are significantly superior to using a cashier in both speed and accuracy. It is definitely way better than having a cashier whose grasp of the English language is weak. From a consumer standpoint this would be an improvement. From a national employment rate standpoint - not so much.

Millions of lower tier workers are going to end up on the welfare rolls. You really think they're all going to suddenly become Google engineers and programmers? Especially when you already have millions competing for those jobs which generally go to someone overseas anyway.

Mickey D's lost their mojo years ago and they had better do something to get the customers back. The new places look terrible and the food tastes bad. I can't understand why they are killing off such a great brand.
