I’m late to the party, but I would keep my current job at the higher salary. Happiness is very important. [snip] will still be there if you want to become available again in a few years. If they want you now, they’ll most likely want you then.
Thank you. I doubt they’ll ever give me an offer anymore to be honest. Retracting from a verbal offer is highly frowned upon.. That’s like me burning a bridge with them

Reason: Company name deleted.
OP did you contact them yet. I would ask for a week to think about it.
I have colleagues that work for [snip]. It can be a stressful company to work at - But that's the old guard. There's been a couple of changes in management recently. I wouldn't stay there forever but if you are young with a lot of energy it is a big career builder on your resume. Especially you said you're in accounting you may want to think twice (or thrice).

Btw I’ve decided, guess it wouldn’t make much sense for me to leave when I’m making the same amount of money plus the fact that I’m happy here. It’s gonna be tough to burn bridges with them but it’s business after all...
I hope I won’t regret this forever
Thanks guys. I’ll keep you all updated.
If [snip] likes you enough, then turning them down for this role won't matter - they'll still consider you in the future.
As for your current role, I'd request a timeline in writing of when your boss believes the promotion will take place. Tell her you'd like to work on goals while she is on maternity leave so that you can move forward into the promotional role once it is created upon her return from maternity leave.

Hey thanks for this note!
I sure hope I won't ruin my reputation there. I mean I've verbally accepted it..
I should hear back from them today though (about the counter offer).
Let's see how that goes. I'm drafting my rejection letter right now
You're negotiating, just like they are. Try not to worry too much. Best of luck.

Actually I told my ex- boss about it. She might've told my current boss. Lol.
If this is true, game over, your career at your current company is toast. This is a counteroffer and you're likely to be gone in 18 months. Take the new job.

The OP is adamant about staying. All we can do now is hope he doesn't get fired when (if?) his boss comes back. If I were you OP, I'd be seeking to promote myself out of the company before my boss comes back. I personally wouldn't feel secure staying after coworkers and my boss knew I was looking to leave. Humans have a habit of taking non-personal things personally.
Does the promotion to management at the current job include another salary bump? That would be nice to get a salary bump now and again when promoted!
