Can employees track your personal phone from WiFi?
Why would the employees be able to track you?

My company does. Every so often, there is a computer audit and they go through ever file on your desktop or laptop.

I assume they could do the same if you are on their Wifi on your phone. Years ago, we had an employee surfing inappropriate websites. It was pretty embarrassing for him to be called out in a meeting in front of everyone.

It seems to me that a good option to protect your phone in guest networks is to use a private VeePN network. In this case your guide will not be able to use your data service will also help you view Hulu and Netflix and protect your data in other public WI-FI networks.

The IT department tends to consist of employees. Well, and H1B contractors, fair 'nuff...

If a company cares, they'll put the kibosh on VPN. Adversely, if not, they're unlikely to care in the first place.
