My work does this thing called “summer hours” and throughout the summer, employees in my department get to leave at noon. The one kicker is someone has to stay and work in case of emergencies.
We all signed up for two days, and unfortunately I was the last to sign up so I got the 26th of July.
This is the day I was supposed to leave for vacation at like 7am, but now I’m supposed to work. I can work remotely, however.
Anyway, my first option is to see if anyone can switch days with me. This is what I kind of afraid of.
This is my first professional salaried job. I don’t want to go beg everyone in the department to switch me like I did when I was a teenager at a restaurant. Is there a way to professionally do this? Should I talk to my boss first?
Also, not 100% sure anyone really likes me. I’ve made posts about being left out, etc.

I just spoke with 2 former supervisors who are effectively locked out of opportunities in the industry. The job market is NOT good right now and if you aren't a card carrying fraternity member and kool-aid sipper don't even think about getting on someone's nerves. Because you'll be gone just like that. From your earlier posts you're in a mid-sized company who can fly under the radar in terms of employment law and just fire people for any reason they want. Plus you are a relatively new employee.
Also you said this is your first "real" job. Well unfortunately guess what that means paying your dues. My first 3 "real" jobs out of school I had to pay dues for the first 3 years until my 4th gig I got a supervisory role and was able to have more flexible work as long as critical deliverables and timelines were met. I attended key meetings wowed the client then bossed out early and came in late. Now I am at a F500 where I am 90% Remote. Not that there is not a fair share of BS to deal with now, but you've got a long way to go before being able to TRULY leverage the perks that Senior or proven experienced team members get.

Do I understand correctly that you planned your vacation departing on July 26 after you signed up to work on July 26?
